Discover Poke Crew (Closter)

Walking into Poke Crew (Closter) for the first time felt less like trying a new restaurant and more like discovering a neighborhood secret that locals quietly swear by. Tucked along 109 Vervalen St, Closter, NJ 07624, United States, this spot has built a loyal following thanks to its fresh approach to poke bowls, relaxed vibe, and consistency that keeps people coming back week after week.

I first stopped in after a long afternoon of errands, craving something filling but not heavy. What stood out immediately was how the staff guided the process without rushing it. Poke can feel overwhelming if you’re new to it, but here the build-your-own method is straightforward. You start with a base like sushi rice or mixed greens, choose your protein, and layer on toppings and sauces. It’s simple, yet thoughtfully done. According to seafood handling guidelines from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, raw fish must be kept below 40°F to remain safe and fresh, and you can genuinely taste that level of care here. The fish is clean, firm, and never fishy, which says a lot.

One bowl I’ve ordered more than once combines salmon and spicy tuna, cucumber, seaweed salad, avocado, and a drizzle of house-made spicy mayo. Each ingredient has its own presence instead of blending into a mushy mix. Nutrition research from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health highlights that meals built around lean protein, healthy fats, and vegetables help maintain steady energy levels, and these bowls hit that balance without trying too hard. You leave satisfied, not sluggish.

What also makes this place work is consistency. A friend of mine who lives nearby grabs lunch here at least twice a week and swears the portion sizes never fluctuate. That matters. In casual dining, reliability often matters more than novelty. Online reviews back this up, with regulars praising not just flavor but how dependable the menu is. Whether you’re ordering in-store or grabbing takeout, the experience stays the same.

The menu isn’t massive, but that’s part of its strength. Instead of stretching thin, the focus stays on poke bowls, a few signature combinations, and add-ons like miso soup or sides that actually complement the main dish. There’s no confusion about what this place does well. From an operational standpoint, limiting menu sprawl often leads to better quality control, a principle echoed by restaurant management studies from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration.

Another thing worth mentioning is how accommodating the staff is with dietary preferences. I’ve seen them handle gluten-free requests and lighter sauce options without hesitation. That kind of flexibility builds trust. While no restaurant is perfect, the only limitation I’ve noticed is seating during peak hours. It’s a popular spot, especially around lunch, so tables can fill up quickly. That said, turnover is fast, and many customers opt for takeout anyway.

Closter has no shortage of places to eat, but this one stands out by doing something specific and doing it well. It’s casual enough for a quick bite, yet thoughtfully executed enough that you’d recommend it without hesitation. The combination of fresh ingredients, a clear process, and positive reviews from the community makes it easy to understand why this spot has earned its reputation. If you’re nearby and scanning locations for something that feels both light and satisfying, this place fits naturally into that list without trying to be anything it’s not.

  • First time trying Poke Crew. Poke Bowls were delicious, fish is fresh as well as all other ingredients. They have a whole menu of signature bowls but you can also choose to make your own which I did for mine. As far as drinks go theres plenty to choose from, bubble tea, iced teas, sodas etc. Service I guess depends on who takes your order, at the beginning we had someone that was not interested in being helpful at all and just straight up rude but at the end there was another guy behind the counter who was very nice. It was very nice out and we decided to sit outside. Will def be back!!!

  • I never had poke so couldn't wait to try! When I arrived I parked in the plaza lot. I walked in and the place was busy. When it was my turn I ordered the shrimp tempura bowl, Korean friend chicken bowl, and honey Walnut shrimp with Zucchini noodles. For drinks I got the cranberry hibiscus tea and the bubble milk tea. It took about 10 minutes to get everything! I really loved the Korean chicken and the shrimp tempura. The honey Walnut shrimp was just ok! I loved the drinks as well! All in all I had a good experience!

  • Very cute place. Poke was really yummy! Their ordering system is somewhat unique but I love it! They have a card with boxes you tick for the type of protein, sides, garnishes, etc. You hand this to a staff member and they whip it up. Very efficient! Nice atmosphere and well designed. Their sign also reads "Masks required if not vaccinated, thank you. :)"

  • Poke Crew in Closter, NJ. Poke bowl and Bubble Tea are an elite combo and you can get it at @eatpokecrew! Super fresh ingredients like ahi tuna and sushi grade salmon are added to veggies and rice to make a perfect healthy poke bowl! There are two locations one in Closter, NJ and Englewood, NJ so they got you covered! The fish is super fresh. The poke bowl varieties are endless but the premade poke bowls are delish too. I loved the homemade juices and really yum bubble tea. There is plenty of parking and seating inside-great place for a causal delish poke spot! Insta: @thehungrysw

  • My favorite go-to spot to grab poke! Each bowl is packed filled with delicious fresh chunks of fish and generous amounts of toppings. I love the variety here and love trying out different combinations each time (my latest fave is their limited edition chashu bowl!). And even when I’m not sure what to order, the staff has always been super friendly and helpful in giving recommendations. Definitely will be back.

  • Poke Crew is my go-to spot for poke. I usually order “The Crew” bowl with a little extra sauce, but their tempura and seasonal specials are also delicious. The flavor balance is spot-on — savory, fresh, and comforting enough to remind me of home cooking. The fish and other ingredients are always fresh, and the staff is consistently friendly and welcoming. One detail I really appreciate: they keep everything impeccably clean, even the sauce bottles. You can tell they wash them daily — the spouts are always spotless, which you don’t see often. Highly recommend for anyone looking for fresh, flavorful poke with attention to detail.

  • This is the best Poke spot in the area. I have ordered the Skuna Bay and Honey Walnut Shrimp bowls multiple times. The quality, freshness, and quantities of ingredients are consistently good. I really hope they keep up with doing such a great job here and don't let the quality slip because I really enjoy this healthier take out option. It's a reasonable price and is enough to fill you up for dinner. I always add avocado myself when I get home because it's cheaper than having them do it. I don't know why places charge so much for avocado.
